Brewery Name: Lineman Brewery
Beer Style: Double West Coast IPA
ABV: 9%
Brewed In: Rathcoole, Co. Dublin, Ireland
Tasting Notes
Today’s beer is a bold one — Disco Devil, a Double West Coast IPA from Lineman Brewery. At 9%, this is a proper treat for hop lovers, featuring Bravo, Ekuanot, Simcoe and Strata for a mix of citrus, pine, resin and punchy tropical notes. It’s big, expressive and unapologetically West Coast in style.
Appearance: Hazy deep golden-orange with a dense, glowing body and a lasting white head. A modern look for a beer rooted in West Coast character.
Aroma: Big citrus peel and resinous pine lead the way, supported by grapefruit, dank tropical fruit and a hint of stone fruit from the hop blend.
Flavour: Strong grapefruit bitterness upfront with layers of pine, resin and bright citrus. Beneath that, expect mango, passionfruit and herbal notes from Bravo, Ekuanot, Simcoe and Strata. The malt stays clean, letting the hops shine while giving just enough depth to carry the 9% ABV.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with firm carbonation and a dry, lingering bitter finish. Warming but balanced — the kind of beer hop lovers enjoy taking their time with.
A proper Advent hop bomb — big, bitter, hazy and full of depth.
About the Brewery: Lineman Brewery
Lineman Brewery, founded by Mark and Vivienne Pearson in Rathcoole, Co. Dublin, has become known for precision, balance and clean, expressive brewing. From crisp lagers to hop-forward modern ales to strong, complex specials, Lineman approaches every style with technical focus and a commitment to clarity of flavour.
Their IPAs are particularly admired for their structure — bitterness that’s firm but controlled, hop character that’s expressive without muddiness, and recipes that bring out the best in modern hop varieties. Disco Devil exemplifies this approach. By blending classic West Coast hop traits with a softer, hazier body, Lineman have created a beer that feels both rooted in tradition and distinctly current.
It’s a great showcase of how Irish breweries continue to push hop-forward styles in exciting directions.

Style Spotlight: Double West Coast IPA
Double West Coast IPAs take everything people love about classic West Coasts and turn it up — higher alcohol, bigger hop character, sharper bitterness and layers of citrus and pine.
Key Characteristics:
- High bitterness
- Citrus peel, pine, resin and grapefruit notes
- Clean malt base
- Higher ABV (8–10%)
- Dry, lingering finish
Modern interpretations, like Disco Devil, sometimes introduce haze while still keeping the clean bitterness and hop-forward profile that define the style. The result is a beer that drinks like a classic but feels more contemporary in body and appearance.
