Tasting Notes

Today’s beer is Breakfast of Champions from Rascals — a smooth and comforting Oatmeal Stout brewed with coffee and chocolate for a rich, winter-friendly finish. It’s a proper December warmer, creamy and flavourful without being overly heavy.

Appearance: Deep brown to near-black with a velvety tan head. Smooth, creamy pour with excellent retention.
Aroma: Fresh roasted coffee, cocoa, toasted oats and soft caramel sweetness. A hint of nuttiness as it warms.
Flavour: Layers of mocha, dark chocolate and roasted malt lead the way, balanced by gentle sweetness and a touch of caramel. The oats add a creamy roundness, and the coffee brings a pleasant bitterness that keeps everything steady.
Mouthfeel: Silky and full with smooth carbonation. Creamy texture from the oats and a clean, warming finish.

The perfect mid-Advent stout — rich, cosy and ideal for a winter evening.

Style Spotlight: Oatmeal Stout

Oatmeal Stout is a smooth, approachable stout style brewed with oats to give the beer extra body and creaminess. It sits between the richness of a milk stout and the roast-driven intensity of a dry stout, offering softness and depth without heaviness.

Key Characteristics:

  • Silky, rounded mouthfeel from oats
  • Notes of coffee, chocolate and roasted malt
  • Moderate sweetness
  • Low to moderate bitterness
  • Smooth, comforting finish

Breakfast of Champions leans into the style’s strengths by adding real coffee and chocolate, making it a perfect winter treat with a gentle mocha profile and a creamy, warming body.
